Diversity at your Library

Diversity at your Library
We live in a very diverse environment. Make it known your library is open to all people and ideas and that its collections reflect many voices and cultures.

  • A Creative Approach
Display books, dress, food and music from around the world. Host book readings, lectures and art exhibits that focus on different cultures and populations.
  • Decoration Needed
Create a photo display celebrating the history and diversity of your local library community. Include archive materials or work with your local historical society to showcase the development of your community.
  • Involve Local Leaders
Honor adult learners at your library. Solicit samples of adult learners' writing and send to the local newspaper with a story about local adult learners and your library's role in their learning. Include a wide range of people and experience when approaching these individuals to participate.

By trying new approaches you may be able to reach a new population. Try a few of these ideas and constantly update your style. This extra exposure will spice up the library environment keeping patrons guessing what will be next. Add culture to your library and watch the diversity unfold.
